Sand and wind damage repair for Victorville, Hesperia and Apple Valley drivers
Text us photos first. If it's event damage, you report the claim with the date it happened and where the car was. We photograph every panel for the file and repair what your insurer approves; you pay your deductible at pickup.

What counts as sand damage in the Victor Valley
Sand damage in the Victor Valley is pitting and scouring of paint, headlights and glass from one specific High Desert wind event, on the side of the car that was facing the gusts. Years of sun and freeway miles wear paint down slowly, and standard policies exclude that kind of wear.
- You know roughly when it happened
- You know where the car was: at home, at work, or on the 15
- The damage is on the surfaces that faced the wind
An NWS advisory is a forecast, not proof your car was damaged. Your insurer decides coverage.
One wind zone: Victorville, Hesperia and Apple Valley
NWS San Diego forecasts the Victor Valley as one zone, CAZ060, "Apple and Lucerne Valleys." The advisory it issued the night of May 3, 2026 reads "Including the cities of Adelanto, Hesperia, Apple Valley, ... and Victorville" (read the product).
Coming from Hesperia or Apple Valley? Every date below covers your city too.
NWS wind products issued for the zone, by date
If you know the date the damage happened, check whether NWS issued a product for the zone that day. Times are Pacific.
| Dates | NWS product | What the product said |
|---|---|---|
| Dec 23–25, 2025 | High Wind Warning | "South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph... Isolated gusts to 75 mph... Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles." |
| Feb 10–11, 2026 | High Wind Warning | — |
| Apr 25–26, 2026 | Wind Advisory | "Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 45 to 55 mph expected. Strongest winds will occur near desert slopes, and through passes, where there could locally be gusts up to 60 mph. Blowing dust will be possible." (first issuance, Apr 24) |
| May 4, 2026, 8 AM to 9 PM | Wind Advisory | "Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph... Blowing dust may reduce visibility at times." |
Most advisory days leave cars untouched. A date on this list doesn't mean your car was damaged or that it qualifies.
NWS San Diego issued 31 Wind Advisories and 2 High Wind Warnings for this zone from January 2025 to September 2026.

Check what a warning actually covered
On May 17, 2026, NWS Las Vegas issued a Dust Storm Warning in effect from 8:46 to 10:45 PM PDT. Its locations include Barstow, Fort Irwin, Baker and "I-15 Between Victorville And Barstow" (the warning).
Victorville, Hesperia and Apple Valley aren't on it. A car parked in town was outside it. If the car was on I-15 or another road north of town that night, tell your insurer exactly where; they decide.
How a Victor Valley claim moves
It starts with a text.
Photos before the drive
Wash it, then text the hood, mirrors, headlights and windshield in daylight, and tell us when you first noticed the damage.
If it's event damage, you report the claim
Give your insurer the date and where the car was. Tell them it's going to Round 2 Refinish.
Daylight inspection at the shop
On a calm day, we photograph every panel, the headlights and the windshield, and the estimate goes to your adjuster.
Adjuster review, with your OK
If we find more damage once the car is apart, we write a supplement with photos and get approval — from your insurer and from you — before that work is done.
Repair and pickup
We refinish what's approved and coordinate the windshield if it's pitted. Your deductible is set by your policy, and you pay it to the shop at pickup.
We don't advertise deductible discounts — California Penal Code §551 prohibits it — and we won't add damage that wasn't caused by the event. Gradual sun fade and clear-coat wear aren't a claim; we'll tell you straight if what you have is that instead.
Getting the car down the Cajon Pass
From Victorville City Hall it's 39.2 miles: I-15 south 24.0 miles down the Cajon Pass, then I-215 for 13.1 miles to exit 41 (Orange Show Rd / Auto Plaza Dr), then W Orange Show Rd, S E St and W Orange Show Ln. About 46 minutes with no traffic. Central Hesperia is 36.6 miles; Apple Valley Town Hall, 47.3, on the same run.
Caltrans District 8 says wind gusts in the Cajon Pass "frequently cause high profile vehicles to be diverted or stopped from using these highways when gusts reach 55 miles per hour" (Caltrans). On an advisory day, text photos and wait. If the windshield is pitted, it can glare at night, so drive down in daylight.
Your insurer may suggest a shop up the hill. California law (Insurance Code §758.5) says an insurance company cannot require you to use a specific body shop, and once you've picked one, it can't push you to switch.
If the car lives down in the valley, see wind damage repair for Rialto; for the Hesperia commute, see paint protection film for Hesperia.
High Desert wind damage questions
Is sand damage from a High Desert wind event covered?
Usually, if you carry comprehensive coverage. Damage from a specific sandstorm or wind event generally qualifies; gradual sun fading, oxidation and everyday wear are excluded on standard policies. You pay your comprehensive deductible, which is often lower than your collision deductible; some policies handle glass under a separate glass provision — check yours. We can't promise what your insurer will approve; we can document the damage properly so the adjuster sees exactly what the wind did.
Should I drive down the Cajon Pass during a wind advisory to get it looked at?
No. Text photos first and come down on a calm day, in daylight. Set up a drop-off time if you need an early one.
My hood is chipped from years on the 15. Is that a claim?
Usually not. Chips that build up over time are normal wear: a customer-pay touch-up or hood refinish. Send photos; your insurer decides claims.
