What is Peel Clear?
Peel Clear is a waterborne, peelable automotive paint system made by Peelclear (Lancaster, PA). It's sprayed in a paint booth with the same HVLP guns and process as real paint, cures to a true gloss, satin or matte finish in any color, and when you want your factory color back it's scored at the edges and peeled off by hand in sheets — no adhesive ever touches your paint. Round 2 Refinish is a certified Peelclear installer, which is what makes the manufacturer's 20-year limited material warranty available on your car; the warranty section below says what it covers, excludes and requires.
- No film, no seams, no edges to lift
- Door jambs, trunk jamb and gas door sprayed and color-matched
- Sandable and polishable like paint
- Peels off without residue over sound factory paint
- 5-year Round 2 Refinish workmanship warranty
Is Peel Clear the same as Plasti Dip or a “liquid wrap”?
No. The rubberized dip products people call liquid wrap are a different category — sprayed rubber, typically rated by their makers for a few years, that tears when it comes off. Peel Clear is a waterborne paint system applied with a standard HVLP gun and cured to a true paint finish that can be sanded and polished. It looks like paint because it is a paint finish.
Peel Clear vs vinyl wrap vs repaint
Three ways to change a color, from a shop that does all three.
| Comparison point | Peel Clear | Vinyl wrap | Repaint |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Sprayed peelable paint | Adhesive cast film | Permanent basecoat-clearcoat |
| Finish | True paint finish — gloss, satin or matte, sandable | Film texture; seams and edges on complex curves | Paint |
| Door jambs | Sprayed | Usually not wrapped | Sprayed on a real color change |
| Reversible | Yes — peels off, no adhesive residue over sound paint | Yes — heat and peel; sun-baked film can leave residue | No |
| Backing | Peelclear 20-year limited material warranty + R2R 5-year workmanship | Film makers rate premium cast vinyl for roughly 5–7 years on vertical panels, less on hoods and roofs | None beyond the shop |
| Repair | Sand, polish or respray a section | Re-wrap the panel | Blend and respray |
Vasken moved his own color-change work from vinyl to Peel Clear because it lasts far longer. We still wrap — see when a wrap makes sense.
Any color. Gloss, satin or matte.
Mixed, not picked off a roll. Send a screenshot and we'll pull the closest match from Peelclear's catalog.
Solids, pearls and color-shift
Peelclear's catalog runs to more than 150 solid colors, plus pearl and iridescent options and its Ultra Shift color-shift line.
Your factory code, matched
Any factory paint code can be mixed, so your color change can be another trim's color or another make's. Clear — gloss or matte — is sprayed over the paint you already have when you only want the protection.
Gloss, satin or matte
A cured paint finish, not a film texture. Gloss can be polished; satin and matte stay even from fender to fender because every panel gets the same mix.
Add-ons on the same estimate: ceramic coating over the finish (roof and wing are common asks), Peel Clear on carbon trim pieces, and wing and aero installs.
Recent Peel Clear jobs
From photos to pickup
Six steps. Two of them are why a Peel Clear job from a paint shop looks different from one out of a tent.
Photos and VIN
Text us all four corners, the VIN plate and the finish you want. Vasken writes a preliminary estimate from the photos. You sign electronically, a deposit locks in your materials, and the car is scheduled once they arrive.
Strip and prep
Any existing PPF or wrap comes off first and we inspect what's under it. Peel Clear goes over sound paint only — peeling clear or a bad respray is a prep conversation before anything gets mixed.
Doors and panels off for the jambs
We remove and reinstall doors and panels to reach the jambs and color-match them, not mask around them. Trunk jamb and gas door too.
Sprayed in the booth
HVLP guns, same process as paint, in our Platinum Finishing Systems downdraft booth — the booth our collision repaints go through.
Cure, unmask, add-ons
Once it's cured we unmask, check every edge and handle the rest of the estimate: ceramic over the finish, Peel Clear on carbon trim, a wing or aero install.
Pickup with the care sheet
We walk the car with you in daylight and go through the first-week and first-month rules. You'll have had photos and videos along the way, as with every job here.
What's covered, and how to wash it
Two warranties, two parties — and one month of care that decides how the finish holds up.
Round 2 Refinish is a certified Peelclear installer, so the manufacturer's warranty applies to work we spray. We warranty the installation and workmanship for 5 years. The Peelclear manufacturer's 20-year limited warranty covers the material itself — delamination, blistering, adhesion failure, product-related peeling, cracking, and yellowing caused by the product. It does not cover rock chips, scratches, impacts, accidents or vandalism, and it requires registration with Peelclear within 30 days and a check-in every three years. The manufacturer's warranty is between you and Peelclear; full terms: peelclear.com/warranty.
Keep it dry for the first 7 days — no washing, no pressure washing, no automatic car washes. Hand-wash only for the first 30 days, no polishing. After that, pH-neutral hand washes and no automatic car washes. It's a real paint finish; treat it like fresh paint.
Why R2R for Peel Clear
- It's paint, and we're painters
Sprayed by a second-generation paint shop in a real downdraft booth, not a tent.
- Jambs done, doors off
Open a door on one of our cars and the color keeps going.
- 5-year shop warranty in writing
The Round 2 Refinish workmanship warranty is on the estimate you sign, not a line someone said at pickup.
- Ceramic, carbon trim and wings, same visit
Priced on the same estimate and done while the car is already here.
- Photos and videos while we work
Masked, sprayed, unmasked — you'll see it before you think to ask.

Peel Clear questions, answered
Is Peel Clear the same as Plasti Dip or a liquid wrap?
No. Those are rubberized dip coatings that are typically rated for a few years and tear on removal. Peel Clear is a waterborne paint system sprayed with an HVLP gun and cured to a true paint finish you can sand and polish.
How long does Peel Clear last, and what's the warranty?
Round 2 Refinish is a certified Peelclear installer and warranties the installation and workmanship for 5 years. Peelclear's 20-year limited warranty covers the material — yellowing, peeling, cracking, fading and adhesion failure caused by the product — but not rock chips, scratches, impacts or accidents. It requires registration within 30 days and a check-in every three years.
Do you spray the door jambs?
Yes. We remove and reinstall doors and panels to reach the jambs and color-match them, so the inside of the door isn't a different color every time it opens. Trunk jamb and gas door too.
Will it damage my factory paint when it comes off?
No adhesive touches your paint. Over sound, properly prepared factory paint, Peel Clear is scored at the edges and peels away in large sheets without residue. If your paint is already failing — peeling clear, bad resprays — that's a prep conversation before we spray.
Can Peel Clear go over PPF or an old wrap?
Any existing film or wrap is removed first and the paint underneath is inspected. Peel Clear goes onto sound paint, not onto film.
How do I wash it?
Keep it dry for the first 7 days. Hand-wash only for the first 30, with no polishing. After that, pH-neutral hand washes and no automatic car washes.
Peel Clear or a vinyl wrap?
If you want a color change that looks and feels like paint, reaches the door jambs, has no seams, and is backed by a longer warranty, Peel Clear. If you want a printed design, a specific textured film, a short-term look, or a chrome delete on trim pieces, vinyl still makes sense. We do both and we'll tell you which fits.
