The drive over
Across town, not onto the 10
Leave Colton City Hall on E C St for 0.4 miles, take Fairway Dr for 0.8, then S Auto Plaza Dr for 0.8. Auto Plaza Dr brings you to Orange Show Rd, then S E St and W Orange Show Ln. That's 2.7 miles, about 7 minutes with no traffic, and you never merge onto a freeway.
That matters after a crash. A bumper cover that's lost a few clips or a cracked headlight lens can feel fine at 30 and not at 65. On surface streets you can pull over the moment something sounds wrong. If the steering wheel sits off-center since the crash, that's a tow, not a drive.
Drive it only if all of this is true. Otherwise, have it towed:
- Headlights, taillights and turn signals all work
- Nothing touches or rubs a tire when you turn the wheel
- No fluid is dripping under the car

Per SBCTA, September 2026, construction on the I-10 Mount Vernon Avenue project began in May 2026, with weekday work by day and by night and intermittent lane closures on N Mt. Vernon Ave between E Valley Blvd and the eastbound I-10 off-ramp. The E C St, Fairway Dr and Auto Plaza Dr route doesn't use that stretch.
South of Colton
Coming from Grand Terrace
From Grand Terrace City Hall on Barton Rd it's 4.3 miles: Barton Rd for 0.4, Mt. Vernon Ave for 1.0, then the I-215 north to exit 41, Orange Show Rd / Auto Plaza Dr. Unlike the Colton route, about two of those miles are freeway, so hold the checklist above to a stricter standard. Loose trim that stays put on Barton Rd may not stay put on the I-215.
If you live closer to the freeway, the Barton Rd interchange is the other way onto the 215. SBCTA rebuilt it with a longer, taller bridge, a widened Barton Rd and a roundabout west of the bridge, finished in 2021.

California law (Insurance Code §758.5) says an insurance company cannot require you to use a specific body shop, and once you've picked one, it can't push you to switch.
